Workshop: Let’s Talk About The Sex Myth

In this 90-minute workshop, students are introduced to the fundamentals of The Sex Myth: the unspoken norms, and assumptions that shape the way we think about and engage with sex. Like the book, the workshop equips participants with tools to critically engage with the messages they have received about sex - from media, social circles, religion, politics, and on-campus - tackling issues such as consent, slut shaming, homophobia, compulsory sexuality, desirability, identity, and more.

Through a series of theatrical techniques and storytelling exercises, students explore how these narratives impact their own experiences and self-perceptions, and begin to construct new, alternative ways of speaking about sex that empower themselves and others. Participants walk away with a deeper awareness of the interplay between their personal experiences and the theatrical skills they need to bring The Sex Myth: A Devised Play to their community.

Break The Sex Myth workshops are a deep transformative experience for students and faculty alike. Past participants describe them as an engaging experience that led them to better understand themselves and others. As one student put it, “The room was so thick with conversation that the hour and a half run time was over before any of us had realized.”

Virtual workshops are $500. In-person workshops begin at $1000 and include licensing rights to The Sex Myth: Devised Play.
